Depositphotos Review – Conclusion
Depositphotos damaged their reputation early on with a poor response to some probing questions regarding their financial backing. This deterred many photographers to from joining. But they have shaken that off and really made themselves over. Depositphotos image in the industry has been vastly improved. As such they have attracted many new photographers. For many they are making up a considerable part of their income each month, thanks to regular sales and that nice commission rate. Plus they have vastly improved their communication with their contributors.
If you have a decent sized portfolio with a few agencies already, it’s worth asking Depositphotos customer support for some assistance after signing up. They will often help with image attribution (putting them in categories etc) for photographers with a bit of a history in microstock.
My experience with Depositphotos has been a positive one, and they continue to improve in my eyes. They have demonstrated some solid sales potential and a well run organisation that is determined to be a key player in the industry. If they maintain their marketing and keep growing at the rapid pace seen so far, then expect to see them reach the top level heights of Dreamstime and 123RF very soon. Lately I am seeing more credit sales as well, which is encouraging considering they promote subscriptions so much. Credit sales not only earn you more, but show that customers are sticking around well past their initial free subscription has expired.
Whether you are just starting out or even if you’re an established microstock player, Depositphotos is a good place to join. You will see sales and you will be pleasantly surprised at your commission rate from them. Just get in quick before they get too big!
