Dreamstime Review

Dreamstime Microstock AgencyThere’s just something about being a part of Dreamstime that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.  Perhaps it’s because of their super friendly contributor forum, or maybe it’s the fun competitions they run and their interest in donating to charities.  Then again, it could just be because Dreamstime make a lot of sales for decent money for a wide range of photographers.

It’s the kind of agency that has a few little innovations that distinguish it from the rest of the bullish pack, while not exactly being the industry forerunner in most areas.  This enables Dreamstime to maintain a very reliable website with a loyal customer base.  It’s also the only library I would ever consider going exclusive with (not that I think going exclusive is a good idea at any agency – see here to find out why).

Why sign up with Dreamstime?

  • It’s one of the top 4 microstock agencies in the world
  • Their RPD (rate per download) often exceeds most other libraries, despite royalties ranging from just 25% to a decent 50%
  • Extra friendly and genuinely helpful forums
  • You earn more each time an individual photo sells (they have a tiered royalty structure rewarding good files)

What’s the downside to Dreamstime?

  • Review times vary, sometimes being ok but often being close to a week
  • Fairly strict (and sometimes confusing) reviewers
  • In the end, none of these are deal breakers…

Dreamstime Review – Conclusion

And I think that’s the point for Dreamstime.  They just keep getting it right for most photographers.  They sell, the site works, and you earn a decent amount per image usually.  In fact, they even have a little trick up their sleeves that is quite unique – you can choose to upload your camera’s RAW image as an additional format, which sells for far more than a normal jpg!  Of course this is optional and debatable as to it’s effectiveness, but it is just another little thing that makes Dreamstime interesting to deal with.

In addition, you can elect to make individual files exclusive to Dreamstime, without having to be an exclusive photographer.  So you can pick just a couple of your images that may sell well on Dreamstime but not in other markets and make them exclusive to give you better return per sale and better search rankings!  Great stuff right?

Dreamstime currently fluctuate between 2nd and 3rd for me in terms of revenue each month. There is no doubt that this is a microstock agency worthy to be a part of. What are you waiting for!?
