YAY Images / YAY Micro Review

YAY Images Microstock Agency(YAY Images is the new name of YayMicro. Not all their advertising has changed yet, but expect to see YayMicro disappear soon as YAY Images takes over)

Some agencies are painful to deal with and produce very few sales.  Other agencies are painless and produce few sales. YAY Images is the latter. But just to sweeten the deal, along with being great to deal with, sales are also starting to increase.

For some reason you’ve just got to like YAY Images, even though they wont be bringing in the big bucks for you.  The site is clean and simple, upload is pretty easy, and when you do sell an image you get a decent amount for it.  YAY Images is the kind of site you really want to do better than it currently is.  Get on board and support this one guys.

Why sign up with YAY Images?

  • Decent 50% commission on all sales
  • Excellent acceptance rate on images
  • Fairly smooth upload procedure
  • Great network of image partners, to produce more sales in the future
  • Friendly, responsive staff
  • Low payout threshold – you can request payment after earning just 30 euro in your account

What’s the downside to YAY Images?

  • Slow sales (although improving lately)
  • Website is pretty basic, lacking innovative features of the big players
  • ’3rd Party Program’ sales only paid every three months
  • Reporting of partner program sales is limited and needs improving

YAY Images Review – Conclusion

The first big tick for YAY Images is it’s 50% commission from day one. These are the sort of sites you’ll want to get behind, ones that see their contributors as a valuable asset. It would be nice to get regular communication from the management as to how they are working to improve their marketing and sales volume. Sales are definitely picking up lately, and nothing is as good as seeing a file sold for $19.50 and knowing you get half of it.

It seems that most of YAY Images’ efforts lately have been centered around garnering a large network of distribution partners – other agencies that will also sell your images that are uploaded to YAY Images.  They have successfully added a few new ones in recent times, but the effectiveness of this strategy remains to be seen.  Also, the way these distribution sales are reported needs improving so that photographers can better track where their work is selling and for what amount.

YAY Images was one of the first microstock agencies that I joined, and I would do it all over again -  especially now that sales seem to be improving. Supporting fair sites that are actively trying to improve their market reach is the way to go. Join YAY Images and feel like you’re improving the microstock world.

After having all submissions to Bigstock rejected, I pulled several other photos and submitted to YAYImages. So glad I kept going with it – they were accepted!

Way to go Maryellen! That’s great to hear.

All the best with trying some other sites as well. Hope you see some sales :)
